Judson Baptist Church - Women on Missions asked me to give a Testimony !

I was asked to give my Testimony of my week @ G.A. Camp @ Tall Timbers, Alexandria, LA (actually Forest Hill, Louisiana) - from 45 years ago!

“Tall Timbers is such a serene place that I always get a blessing from just being here. God is in this place.” — Betty Erwin Corkern

Fortunately, a friend of mine was also asked to give her Testimony of being a Summer Counselor @ GA Camp.
So - we decided to do it - - Depending totally upon the LORD for his Mercy & Grace to present our Testimony.
I must confess I immediately called my sister (out of state) and was over-joyed to hear her re-live her Precious Memories from our week of camp (over 45 years ago)
The Louisiana State WMU - Director held a meeting at my church on May 20 for all the churches in our Local Association - as the State of Louisiana focuses on plans for a New Conference Center @ "Tall Timbers'.
Those precious memories began to all fall into place - - if interested you may read my Testimony - - below

Good Evening, Ladies 05/20/2013
Precious Memories ! It’s hard to forget those Precious Memories from our childhood! GA Camp @ Tall Timbers is one of those Precious Memories for both my sister and me.
It’s been about 45 years since my sister and I went to GA Camp @ Tall Timbers - - but those Precious Memories are still very vivid today.
The anticipation of going to G A Camp was so exciting - - We were going to learn more about Missions ! We looked forward to meeting a 'real' Missionary that would also be with us that week!
We would travel together with the other GA’s from our church here at Judson. I remember it being a very long drive, as there were no interstates in this area in the 60’s. But, we always enjoyed the long, beautiful drive to Tall Timbers Camp.
We looked forward to meeting the other G.A. girls from other cities and towns thru-out the State of Louisiana. Some became our roommates for the entire week. And, I believe some became Missionaries - - because of that special Missions Emphasis encountered @ Tall Timbers.
Each cabin was assigned its own Special Counselor that week. Those counselors were so very special and so committed to serving the Lord during that Special week.
Even today, I am blessed to attend church with my friends who also attended G.A. camp @ Tall Timbers. We still find ourselves occasionally Sharing the Joys of our Adventures at Tall Timbers.
That one week @Tall Timbers was action-packed - - - filled with daily Praise and Worship and a staff fully committed with a Heart for Missions. There was always time for recreation, beautiful nature trail walks and crafts.
I remember that very special time each day that we were able to spend time with the Special Missionary. This Special Missionary would share with us their life on the Mission Field. It was so interesting to hear how they lived their life on the Mission Field - - some on the other side of the world.
Each night before going to bed we would have outside devotional time which always included that wonderful sweet song “Cume-by-ya’ – My Lord – Cume-by-ya’” - - Remember that song ?
The week at G.A. Camp – always passed quickly by – and, then it was time to leave the new friends we had made - - to leave the Missionary that we came to know and love. It was time for us to return home. My sister and I always returned home both inspired - -with a new zest - - ready to focus more on missions than ever before. We had a desire to become more involved in our Sunday School and G.A. group.
Even though I am much older today, I continue to develop a strong heart for Missions. I now truly understand why my Grandmother loved WMU so much.
The words of our G.A. song say:
“We’ve a story to tell to the Nations that shall turn their Hearts to the right;
A story of Truth & Mercy - - - A story of Peace & Light”
I am thankful to God for allowing Tall Timbers to be His shining Light here in Louisiana to promote Missions - - for His Glory.
Thank you for allowing me this time to share my Heart.
sounds nice.
