Finally - - My Quilts are Being Completed - -

You've heard the Story - - Look closely - - and you will see the 'snow-flake design within the small squares. This quilt was begun about 3 years ago - - when we watched it Snow three different times in January. I pieced the top - (9-patch - It's actually in between a Single-Size and Double-Size Bed).
This was given to someone special for Christmas.

This completion gave me the incentive to tackle the completion of another quilt - Mauve-Colored Print

This quilt is actually queen-size - - i pieced the top - - and it's at the quilters now - for the backing.
This will be given to someone with a new house.

Another small Throw has been completed - - at least the 'top has been pieced' - - And, I'm waiting to take it to the quilter's for the backing - - This particular 'Throw" is called the "Spool Quilt" - - (imagine why). You are able to identify our Maw-Maw's dress material which was used as the patterns (spools). I was surprised and overwhelmed to know this particular 'Throw" will be on several people's 'wish list' - - - at a future date in my life.

And - I must never forget - - the first quilt I ever 'attacked' - - but completed. I pieced it - - and Ginger quilted 'the backing' Look to the far right on my blog - - and you will see the picture - but look closely and you will dentify 'The Bow Tie" Quilt. -

My next quilt - - - "the "Doll Quilt" - - Someone gave me the pattern and material - - I must get busy !

Area Churches are collecting non-perishable food items. Be sure to go thru your pantry and donate a few cans !

Also - coming up this early Fall - (September) - Friends of mine will be returning as a Mission Team to the Nearby Indian Reservation in Mississippi. Craft items for the Senior Citizen Center on the Reservation are being collected. Please let me know if you would like to donate any craft items - - sewing and craft kits / items. I'll be delighted to pick those up from you to be included in the collection for the Reservation.

Plans are in the air for the Mexico Orphanage - Mission - Christmas Emphasis ! - Coming upthis Fall. Must plan now - so that Santa can fill those children's 'wish list'

- -   (What would we do without remote control ! - I guess we'd have to get up from our e-z chair)
- -   The Monitor for Generator - Carbon Monixide Alert
- -   The Smoke Alarms
- -   The back-up for the alarm clock
- -   Then - there's ALL the Flash Lights -
- -   Don't forget the 'nite lights'
- -   And, the wrist watch !

Good Morning !

Today it is 44 degrees - to be in high of 67 - - (chilly !)
That's me waving to you from my office on the 6th Floor of the LWCC Building
(LA Workers Compensation Committee)

This is where I spend the majority of my time - Monday - Thru - Friday.

The building is equipped with not one - but two, and, sometimes three security guards at all times and a cafe' - and also a private garage - covered parking - and also our Mary Kay Lady - oh yes, and also (Thank GOD) - two nurses - from whom I had to encounter assistance.

Hard to believe I've been here since April of 2007 !

And - for ya'll King Cake Lovers - - and considering the fact that Mardi Gras officially ended Tuesday 3-08-11) Would you believe - - our office received another King Cake in the mail yesterday (Wednesday)
This was from a company that is 'advertising'.

Only in Louisiana - - did we enjoy a State-wide Holiday
(Yesterday) - - Mardi Gras -

I use to attend local family-oriented Mardi Gras Parades -
but now I use this day to catch up on chores and yard work!

but more importantly - - today we enter the Lenton Season approaching the celebration
of the beautiful miraculous event of Easter

And -

to Sacrifice the eating of 3 hot doughnuts I indulge myself in
every morning Monday - Friday.

And -

complete a home project

And -

work on a few personal issues

And -

Probably by far, the hardest is the fact that
I have accepted the challenge to
"Share My Daily Steps"
with you during these next 48 days !

The days leading up to Christmas are always filled with many things as we celebrate and prepare for Christmas. - - being given many opportunites to share the True Meaning of Christmas.

One very special moment of planning for Christmas is gathering items for the Mexcio Orphanage that the church has adopted. Our gifts are the only gifts these children receive all year - Imagine that ! therefore we start early - collecting gifts and clothes for these special people. This project has been ongoing @ my church for years - - and the special miracle of this Christmaas project is the fact that there are always gifts left over to spread thruout the surrounding villages. These gifts have all been delivered to the orphange - unfortunately, due to issues in Mexico we are unable to go as missionaries for the week - - hopefully, next year !

It's heart warming to know all these little children will experience the Miracle of Christmas once again this year

Another evening of Christmas Celebration included the beautiful music of a grand Christmas Church Choir as tonight we sat around a beautiful Christmas decorated dining table complete with a delicious Christmas dinner of a unique Salad - - Roast Pork Loin - vegetables - grits medallion ! - yes grits medallion - (delicious ) - taste like potatoes ! - and red velvet cheesecake - - Up until tonight I never liked cheese cake -

Teri and I and 'the girls' in her family enjoyed this beautiful evening surrounded with 100's (?) of beautiful Christmas Poinsettias and with 1,000's (?) of glistening White Christmas Lights. What a sight to behold !

Another Christmas Celebration this week !

Age has no limit when it comes to Seeing Christmas thru the eyes of a child - - as was evident this evening as I attended the Christmas Celebration with my Aunt who resides at Harvest Manor Nursing Home.   Her daughter also attended and I enjoyed very much visiting with my cousin (as well as my aunt) - as the 3 of us reminisced Christmas' at Maw-Maw's House.

Lots of time and energy were devoted to the planning and decorating of this Joyous Christmas Celebration for its residents. The special music and the delicious food buffet - along with Santa and the beautiful Christmas decorations and lights all played a beautiful part to enhance this festive occasion.

The Miracle of Christmas brings us the reminder of  "Faith - Hope - and Love" - no matter what age.

Sing With JOY to the World - - - - - ! !

Be Caller # 3 - - and You will Win - - -and I did ! (this is music to my ears!) - - - which allowed Teri and I to attend this special Christmas musical featuring one of our favorite legendary Gospel Trios - "The Martin's" - in concert at Istrouma Baptist Church. This was combined with a nice surprise of seeing my cousin and his wife in attendance as well.

The Martin trio consists of 2 sisters and 1 brother who were born and raised in Bastrop, Louisiana - all 3 in their 40's- and have been singing as a Trio for 30 years (Imagine !) They have several #1 Gospel songs - and have won a grammy or 2 for their successful work.

The journey for me to this Christmas Celebration took about 2 weeks. It took that long to finally be the 3rd caller on KPAE Gospel Radio Station - and win 2 free tickets. They did this daily ! Sounds easy - - but it's not! I just thank the Lord for slow-moving traffic in my travel home each evening - -and also for cell phones - - - whereby I was able to listen to the radio -- and win these 2 free tickets.

P.S. - - If you have a gospel concert you'd like to attend - but would prefer free tickets - - let me know - and I'll patiently listen in - on my drive home each evening. - - It really does work !

Ohhh - - the Sounds of Christmas - - The Christmas stories - the wrapping of gifts - the cooking - - the songs - - the excitement of children sharing their 'wish list' - - the 'sounds of quietness' as you gaze upon the Bright and Shining Star that led the shepherds to the manger of Baby Jesus.    The sounds at the live Nativity Scene!

Choirs from neighboring churches filled the little wood structure with sounds of beautiful Christmas carols last  evening - (Thursday) Dec. 2 - as Macedonia Baptist Church presented - 'Christmas in the Pines.   The live Nativity Scene brought beautiful sounds of Christmas. A beautiful way to welcome the Celebration of the Christmas Season.

A little church history - - this little country church continues to worship each Sunday in the Original - One Room - Wood-Structured Church Building that was constructed in its current location in 1898.   This very small  'one-room' church currently re-lives some of its history - - -example -  the original one-room church building - - - the church drinking water resource is the original flowing water spring - - the old wooden pews - - a replica of an old wood heater used years ago to provide heat - - although they still use this heater from time to time.   -- there are descendants of worshipers from generations ago - - and the nostalgia from long ago.   Friends Roger Dunlap and his wife, Janice (Mack) pastor this wonderful congregation.

The true 'Sounds of Christmas' cause us to reflect upon that glorious evening from over 2000 yrs ago on that special night that Christ was born.

Oh Come - Let us Adore Him - - Christ the Lord !

The month of December means Celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ. And, for "W.O.M." it means a new person assigned to the Missionary Prayer Calendar for W.O.M. - that person is me! I must admit (since it's my first time) I was very pleased to know that due to our December Holidays, I will only be preparing for 2 Sundays. I plan to attach the Candy Cane Poem (printed below) and the name of each missionary to the ribbon of each candy cane. Ofcourse, the ribbon will be of Christmas design. This is low budget - as I can do everything on the computer - - and then buy a bag of large candy canes and I'm certain there's some Christmas ribbon neatly tucked away in all my Christmas parafanalia !

"K A J U"

Samples of food from various countries were enjoyed by our visitors. I chose a simple Asian Dish - which is a delicacy in India. It's called "KAJU" - - It's also known as 'Seasoned Cashet Nuts'.

Saute' 2 cups unsalted cashew nuts in a pre-heated pan with 1 and 1/2 tablespoons vegetable oil for 3 (three) minutes. Remove the nuts from the pan and lay them on paper towel to drain. Pat them dry. Place them in a mixing bowl and mix with 1 teaspoon salt - dash of cayenne pepper - and black pepper (optional). Pour into serving bowl and E N J O Y !

It's Donna Douglas- or better known as Elly Mae on the "Beverly Hillbillies".

What a delight it was to meet her and listen to her as she recently shared her wonderful testimony at my local church Although she has obviously 'matured' over the years - now being 76 years old - - she presents a very personable attitude to her audience. It was a joy to get to meet and talk with her.

Her assistant for the evening was one of the girls she had gone to school with! They have maintained friendship all these years. Donna has never forgotten 'where she came from' !

- she was truly born a country girl
- her family was very poor - -
- she grew up on her grandparent's farm in Zachary
- she graduated from Redemptorist High School - Baton Rouge (years ago)
- she is currently single - (divorced 2x) - and has one son.

F I G S - - - Do you recognize these little delicacies ?

These are not just any figs - - These are the harvest from one of my grandma's fig trees that grew in her back yard. This tree is about - or at least - - 45 years of age. - - and generations long after my grandma are reaping the harvest of her labor from her beautiful garden.

My neighbor that has bought the house has so kindly shared these figs with me - and I have shared them with my sister and an aunt. - - - - - -"They taste the same as they did back then."

1. Why do I blog ? The art of writing has always intrigued me - - even as a child. Keeping a diary as a child, - - keeping journals as an adult - - to even keeping a Prayer Journal. I must confess the purpose of taking the shorthand course in high school - - was because of the flair of writing that it exhibited. Due to the fast-pace world in which we live, I'm even committed to maintaining a daily personal agenda on my computer. Then, I was introduced to the "World of Blogging" - - by my sisters - - so here I am.

2. What do I blog about? - - Well, if you read my blogs - you'll agree - I am truly a beginner. There's so much in life that passes our daily paths - - it's a joy to be able to share it with other bloggers. But, specifically, I do blog about my creations of quilts - a little gardening - and the fun activities with my Sunday School Class of Ladies - - most of whom I grew up with ! -my close family members and I could never forget my cat. I invite you to check out my blog archives and review my blog topics !

3. What's the biggest reward you get from Blogging? - - Without a doubt, the biggest reward I receive from Blogging, is the satisfaction of reading my sisters, cousins, and neices blogs. The joy of seeing how blessed they are in their everyday lives. Their blogs bring a smile to my heart each time I read their blog! (Now you know - -so keep up your blogs !)

4. How long have I been blogging? - - As a New Year's Resolution, I entered the World of Blogging on December, 2008.

5. What inspired my Blog Title? My blog title was easy to compile. My family name is "Young" - - Blogs relate to family - to memories - to daily living. Therefore, I wanted to use a part of my family name. The words "Daily Steps" came about - relating to our daily walk with the Lord. Hence - the title "Young Daily Steps".

Remember - we are only a blog away!

Welcome to my Cooking Session ! - - - Now that I have your attention ! - - Everyone knows I am not qualified to conduct a 'cooking session' - - but it was a joy to participate!

But Mrs. Ruby is the master chef and she led our cooking session along with the planning and coordination and decoration of the Ladies Spring Tea held Sat March 20 - Dawn and Mrs. Ruby are in the pix - - That's Ms. Gene in the 'green'.

This is Anita - - she is a very faithful 'kitchen assistant' w/Mrs. Ruby

Let's not forget the behind-the-scenes volunteers working to set up everything - and our greeters. It's such a JOY to experience this wonderful short-lived weekend full of unity - rekindling old friendships and making new friends! - - and everyone with the same focus - JESUS.

I look forward to attempting to fill the shoes of 'kitchen assistant' - @ the next spring tea. "Kitchen Assistant" - I like the way it sounds - - but, technically it's just another word for 'dish washer' and 'kitchen helper'. One of which I've come to enjoy! I have re-kindled friendships and made new friends! Hope to see you there! - and Hope to have a new apron!

It was time for another quilt - - ! Motivated by the beautiful, abundance of fallen snowflakes during this winter season - - the beautiful drops of snowflakes impressed me to use it as a theme for a quilt piece. So, as I watched my ole friend Dick Clark count down New Year's Eve (on TV) my snowflake theme quilt top was begun.

However, this is not where my love for quilts began - - - Just the art of quilting has a heartfelt treasure that I shall never forget. I recall the evenings that as a child, my grandma would sit with us to watch TV - and she would piece her quilt top - - Somehow I was very intrigued as to the creativity of all of her quilts - - different patterns - - different materials - - different thread - even different size needles - - but when combined made such beautiful quilt tops. My grandma had this art so well established - - that she never pricked her finger on the needle - and most times could amazingly cut without a pattern. I recall sitting in the recliner w/my grandma and having her let me 'practice' peicing a quilt top. Oh, my stitches were so 'ugly'. At the time, making a quilt was beyond my fondest dreams. However, after enduring pricked fingers from the needles, and sewing 'wrong side' - - and other things that go along as one 'practices' peicing a quilt top, I believe I finally have picked up a little of the art of piecing a quilt. This is my 5th quilt top. Sometimes one of the family topic of conversations will revert back to my grandma and her beautiful quilts that my Grandma so graciously gave to us. I hope in time to come, someone will enjoy the beauty of my quilts.

This is the quilt top I'm currently piecing - -Look closely to see the snowflake images!

After cutting all the tiny squares, the 9-piece block pattern began !

This quilt will have 49 blocks with 9 pieces each. This is in addition to the solid colored block that will rest between each 9-piece block.

Trust me when I say - 'that's a lot of cutting !"

Next, I enthusiastically begin to piece the rows together - I can now see progress! It's a little "un-even", but as a 'quiltor' - I can fix that!

Seven 9-piece blocks per row - - with a solid blue in between each block - Total of 12 blocks per each 7 rows.
That's a lot of blocks!

After piecing the 7 rows, a solid, narrow strip is inserted between each row. This makes the quilt 'wider'

This is 1/2 finished - I've pieced together the rows and the inserted strip

The back side of the quilt will be the medium - darker color blue.

It's coming along -- - It's getting bigger. The blue gives it a soft, comfortable effect. The medium - darker blue for the back side will enhance the overall color of the piece quilt top.

I must get this complete - so I can begin 'work in my yard'

Spring is about to Spring Forward -

This weekend we will Spring Forward by moving our clocks one hour ahead - I'm so looking forward to this! - - Longer daily hours to sit on my porch swing in the evening - -and work in my yard, if I so choose.

I'm reminded of one of my Grandma's favorite sayings -- "Where does the time go" - - As a child I could not even begin to think what she meant - - But, as I'm older - - I know exacly what she means - - And, I too must agree with my Grandma, 'where does the time go."

This winter proved to be one of the coldest winters the South has had in many years! Although the snow was beautiful as it fell from the sky - - but I'm so glad it's gone - - After 3 (or was it 4) bouts of snow within 3 months, I'm ready for the Spring - - I want to see those beautiful flowers and that green grass - - Ironically, the birds never left - - They were here even during the snow Season.

I hope my flowers and bushes yields beautiful - colorful flowers - - as a result of my project of fertilizing the yard - - during the snow - - It actually took an entire afternoon.

I've been pretty active although snow-bound. I've managed to begin a new quilt - would you believe the theme is 'snow flakes' - -I'm about 1/2 way thru. This quilt will be very special to me, as the print is 'snow flakes' - - and I do love the fallen snow.

Although small as it may be, I've managed to fill and re-arrange a time or two, my new curio cabinet. I love to just look at the memoralbilia I've collected over the years. It's all such fond memories.

Kay Arthur took me thru a Bible Study Session. We have 2 lessons left in this study. The topic is "Covenant with God" - - It's such an indepth study - - but I've learned so much !

My skills of dish washing has found myself in the Church Kitchen during our Associational Ladies Conf in January; - - - And, our team has been requested to do it again for the upcoming Ladies Fellowship next Saturday - - Can't wait to show you my APRON for this. Stay tuned.

Well - the magic number among my friends is 60. Two of my Sunday School friends are turning 60 and we are venturing to the Dinner Bell in McComb on Saturday - -But, it's not just any adventure - - we are wearing red hats - - whatever kind of red hat you prefer - - A cap - or sun visor - - but it must be red. GOD says that old age is a blessing - and I can see it truly is!

Surprise Visit by Mr. Tom

We have something in common - - and that is - - we all LOVE surprises - - (good surprises) - - Well -- I had a surprise - - Mr. Tom Turkey came to visit me - Unexpectedly - - I WON A TURKEY. Unbelievable! - - I do realize many of you receive a frozen turkey from your employer during the hoildays - - mine has not begun this tradition - not yet, anyway! ) Anyway, Mr. Tom Turkey is currently in my freezer - - waiting to be given away to a good home!
How did I win this - you ask? Let me tell you - - I won it at the neighborhood grocery store!
See - each time you purchase groceries - - you have the opportunity of putting your name in the hat - - No one can do it for you - - Only the purchaser.
Well - It's a well known realization that I do not actually purchase groceries for myself - - But my little ministry includes grocery shopping for the home bound -- They provide me with their list (and their $) and I purchase all items on their list - No More and No Less - - - I enjoy this - I truly do - and they also do. So it works out very well.
So - as I would participate in my ministry - - each time I went in to purchase the groceries - I put my name in ! And - I WON - - - several other people also won a turkey for themselves.
I realize everyone has their turkey for Thanksgiving - - but Turkey is such a delicacy - - you can devour him @ any time.
My plans are to pass Mr. Tom Turkey to the next family that pulls into my driveway. So - come on over and take Mr. Tom Turkey home with you. He makes such a great visitor!

Storage Space for Memorabilia

Ever Needed More Storage Space - - to store your Memorabilia - - I recommend a "Curio Cabinet". I love it - - The small light in the interior really enhances my whole kitchen / living area. It's amazing how quickly the five (5) shelves (storage space) filled up with some of my so-called memorabilia. - - Each piece tells a story of its own - - -I remember my Grandmother had two (2) China Cabinets -- full of beautiful 'Memorabilia' from her many years. As a child, I would gaze thru those glass doors and just look and listen as my grandmother shared the history of specific pieces of her memorabilia. Thankfully, I received a piece of my grandmother's Memorabilia. My dream is that one day - years from now - - someone will gaze thru the doors of my 'Curio Cabinet' and accept a little piece of my memorabilia and include it with their memorabilia. I have to go now - - and re-arrange my 'Memorabilia.' - - - -

Hello - - and I'm glad you dropped by - -

Well - I felt as though I was in concert last night - on stage - before a large audience - being taped for a future TV appearance. - - - But, it was all on stage - being taped for future TV appearance - - but it was not me - - It was the Bill Gaither Gospel Homecoming Reunion 2009 - River Center - Baton Rouge. I was blessed with winning a pair of tickets to attend this event.

How did I win them - you ask ? While driving home one evening in rush hour traffic - - nothing about rush in this traffic - it's all bumper to bumper - - so with my radio on - - I heard my favorite radio station say - be the 12th caller (yes - 12) - - and you will win a pair of free tickets to the Bill Gaither Gospel Homecoming Reunion - - and guess what - - I won ! - -

Then there is "Intermission" - - a wonderful opportunity of getting to meet them - - - and, yes I talked to my favorite few ! It's always amazing (encouraging) - - that even though the majority of these guys travel by 'motor coach' - - and rarely sleep becuz the multiple concert tours (daily) - - -they are always sharing testimony - and you find out - - these great people - are just like you and I. Singing it all thru song.

I've always wanted to be a 'singer' - - In my younger days - it was a 'country music singer' - - but now as I get older - - I would love to be a Gospel Singer - - ! A friend adn I are considering singing on '5th Sunday Night Singing' - - but we both sing ALTO - so this may not work. But until that time occurs - I'll continue going and listening to my favorite groups.

Today - My daily steps led me to the following reality - - A flat in the driveway - - - Not too funny, huh? But I'm thankful - the flat occurred in the driveway - ! - - and not on the road - - My Aunt let me borrow her vehicle - - - and my neighbor said - he will change the flat before I return home. What a sweet Aunt - - and a great neighbor. I'm so thankful for both of them.

I'd like to introduce you to Cousin Joey and his family
who have been busy restoring 'the old house'.

The top pix is - couple on far left - Cousin Joey and his wife and their neice in blue dress. A family friend in Confederate uniform (far right) - - then, the little neices and nephews on bottom steps - - all dressed 'in the era of time'.

As you know - Grandma Betsie's father was a prisoner of war for 3 years - - which is why Cousin Joey tries to memorialize the Confederacy - (they have on Confederate uniforms).

The 2nd above pix is a side view of the front of the 'old house'. Just imagine - all the farming done back in the day - - with all that open pasture land. - Notice house is on blocks - off of ground

The pix below - - in reality - - all houses - new or old - - has a 'storage area' -- The picture below is the side and the back porch (patio) - - Yes - - look at all the stuff!! - - - But - my cousins and I did browse - but did not actually see anything :-) in this maze of 'stuff'. However, we did get some 'old rusty nails' - - that can not be purchased today - -

Notice the 'satellite dish' on side of house by the roof of the porch/patio - - - (They have teenagers living on 2nd floor !) - - -

As I mentioned there is no original furniture in the house - - but they have put together a few pieces from the 'era of time'. And - by the way - - there must have been a love for teasets from even years ago. To make the house more alive - - cousin's wife has collected a few teasets and has placed them thru-out the house. Wife mentioned they have gone on Church Mission Trips to Romania - and pick up a teaset when they go.

MY YARD HAS COLOR !!

While strolling thru my yard during 'day light savings time' - I suddenly noticed these beautiful colored flowers. Finally !!

The rose bushes are from a family cutting - you can see the vibrant rose petals - I must admit my yard is coping with another rosebush cutting I got from the neighborhood deli - it has not decided exactly what it plans to do !

The Lantana bushes are showing potential to become very vibrant in both the purple and the yellowbushes:- which are both several years old.

There are a few otherflowers that are contributing to the color in my yard. One of those is the pink clover - that surrounds two of my tree trunks - really pretty - - This came from my maw-maw's yard; whch I have reason to believve actually originated from the yard of her Mother-in-Law. - many many years ago.

Then, there's Joe Pye which I received a cutting from another relative. It's showing potential - - Not many people like Joe Pye but I'm attracted to it. I look forward to having this grow in my yard - - People refer to it as a 'weed' - - but it's actually a beautiful plant that multiplies. I hope to have pix soon.

Remember my Thankful List from the other day - (if you missed it - you can scroll down and read it ) - - Well, today I'm thankful for this rain we are receiving tonight -- it will truly help bring more color to my yard.

My sister/cousin reminded me that we should be thankful for the simple things of life. She's right - and here's my list from today. Just a few things to name a few - -

I'm thankful for:

1. The 'blog - world' - - allows me to keep up with relatives & friends (free of charge)
2. Day light savings time - allows me to enjoy God's beautiful outdoors longer each evening.
3. Able to share and receive cuttings of flowers from relatives / friends - - (makes gardening
more 'memorable' !)
4. Thankful for my grandma's quilting from years ago - - - which although late in my life -
I've captured the quilting bug - but at least I captured it.
5. Thankful for my sisters and my sister/cousin - - I love them more than they know -
6. Thankful for people I work with - understanding !
7. Thankful for Wendy's Salads - $1.29 - delicious - large - healthy - and filling for Lunch !
8. Thankful for 'grey hair' - - do NOT have to keep a schedule to color it often !
9. Thankful for the Beautiful - Stray - Cat - that ALWAYS welcomes me home each day !
10. Thankful I'm able to cut my grass - opportunity to 'Praise God' - -(sing) as I cut my grass!
11. Thankful for my black pants w/elastic waste - goes with everything - - everytime !
12. Thankful for those little birds - - humming birds and red birds - - that frequent my yard.
Amazing how those little wings are so powerful!
13. Thankful for ALL my neices and nephews - - it's a Blessing to watch them mature and
move forward in life - - (This means I"m getting older !)
14. Thankful for my Sunday School Class - - an OLD friend is in there - - and ironically, neither
one of us have changed from over the years ! (oh well !)
15. Thankful there is such a thing as: "accepting the things I cannot change - and simply
move forward.

Mardi Gras in the South ! !

Look - that's My 78 yr old Aunt Myrtis

honored as Queen of Mardi Gras ! !

at local nursing home in which she resides

My Aunt Myrtis was proudly represented by her family and long time friends as she reigned as Queen of her nursing home this afternoon.

We are so proud of our Aunt Myrtis ! As a resident, she is very involved in all actitivities of the nursing home, - she has even began a beginners sewing bee for some of the ladies ! They quilt and crochet - play games and meet daily for there afternoon tea - They enjoy Southern Gospel Bands that come and play for the residents - including bible study and preaching of God's Word. Lots of her old-time friends are there - - She and her long time friends continue to comfort one another and share with one another.

Challenge - - -

One of my favorite bloggers has sent out a Challenge to her "Blog" Visitors - - to describe ourselves in eight (8) different ways.

After reading others - -you'll agree my 8 descriptions are pretty boring ! ! ! Nevertheless, I've accepted the Challenge and here are 8 descriptions of myself:

1. I hope it is evident - - - I am a born-again believer in Christ Jesus !

2. I'm divorced - and very broke (oh well !) I do not cook . As being single-again, I've learned to do many 'chores' around the house ! Some I love doing - - others I hate !

3. I'm 'middle age' (but enjoying it) and classified as a 'senior citizen' (but enjoying those senior discounts !)

4. I enjoy watching "Lawrence Welk Musical" reruns (ever heard of
him ?! ) :) - - - And, listening to my favorite TV pastors - "Charles
Stanley" from Atlanta, GA; "Joel Osteen" from Houston, TX;
"Joyce Meyers" from way up North; and our very own "Larry
Stockstill" (They come on EVERY NIGHT !)

On my list of "Things to Do" is attend one of Joyce Meyer's teachings - when she comes to my area - - - and serve as Volunteer aide - - - She
requires about 150 - - -I love 'behind the scenes' experience.

I truly love attending concerts of nationally known, southern gospel quartets ! I've been blessed with the opportunity of meeting some "top of the line" groups - - (behind the scenes)

5. I am a caretaker for my dad - - (Although this is a very challenging task, it's actually quite a blessing to get to know each other all over again !)

I am also a part-time caretaker for anoter relative. Joy is found in this as together we 'reflect' over past family memories.

6. To the delight of my elderly aunts, two of my relatives and I are in the final stages of producing a "Family Cookbook" in honor of our precious grandma. Now we'll have those good ole' family recipees bound in a book - - that will last for years and years to come !

7. I am a "late-bloomer" - - regarding hobbies)

By this I mean - - I have recently started on my 5th quilt ! - and, have begun really getting involved in my flower garden - - - I had no idea of the relaxation and inspiration afforded by both of these 'hobbies'.
I wish I would have caught this 'virus' earlier !

8. My job - - First let me say - - unlike my sisters - - I graduated 12th grade with D's - - They were 'A+' kids ! (now, let me take this opportunity to tell my sister that I had 'punish work' so much - - it became a habit !. (She'll know what I mean) :) However, despite the odds, I immediately went to work with State Dept. of Civil Service one month after graduation as a typist - - which has proven to be a very successful, marvelous career for me ! I climbed the ladder to that of an Executive Asst. I thank the LORD for the opportunity.

I also served several years as part-time secretary for a local church in my community - - I really grew in the Lord during that time. However, are you aware that church office can be as difficult to work in as a secular office.

As a single person, I must continue to work a while longer. I currently serve as receptionist / secretary for a local, very prestigous company. I truly know the Lord granted me this position - - no doubt about it !

9 Now - - -let me get to the real description of myself.
I wish my family realized what a blessing they are and how much I appreciate them ! I wished they knew what a blessing it truly is to 'sit back' and watch all of their children as they grow into adults with positive life challenges of their own.

I truly enjoy being involved in my Sunday School class.

So no matter the age - or the health - or the life situation - - - it's been proven time and time again - - the Lord has something for everyone to do. I only wish I would have gotten serious earlier in life - - but just remember - God is not thru with any of us yet !

UPDATE ON THE

"BEGINNER'S QUILT"

Delightment captured me as some of you have actually inquired regarding the status of the most recent "beginner's quilting project".

(My camera needs a battery which has prevented me from photos !)

Although no pix - - the following relates the 'steps' - - actually these are my 'experiences':

1. It has thrilled me to realize I have already hand-pieced together 7 rows !

2. Searching continues for the candy cane material to be used as the border around EACH individual block and also for the backing

3. Enjoyment - - - Relaxation - - - Inspiration have resulted from this quilting project - - as I listen to TV devotionals while doing so - - - From 8-9 PM devotionals are sent thru the media waves by either Larry Stockstill - or Joyce Meyer - or (my favorite) Joel Osteen. Then, I get a comedy sitcom from 'King of Queens". Then finally, the media updates our world's current events @ 10 PM.

4. Joy to the Soul is experienced as I continue to stay involved in this project - -

5. Challenge is extended to anyone that needs a little 'retreat' - -

Recipe for QUILT-ing

The above is all the necessary items required for a 'beginner's quilt'

- - This is all you need to begin a quilt - - - You'll see my material - (of which I purchased for 75% off ) (try to figure out the print !) - - - the thread - - - the pin cushion - the scissors - - - the PHONE - - - a delicious apple for a HEALTHY snack - - - and the T.V. remote control - - - (gotta watch my shows !)

After much contemplation -- - I've decided to make a 'block' quilt (real easy for us 'beginners') - - There will be about 7 rows - with 11 blocks on each row - - - then there will be a very thin strip of 'candy canes' between each row - - -Hopefully, this will bring out the candy canes in the quilt. Then, if I succeed in the completion of this quilt top - - I'll have it quilted - - - using the candy canes as the backing!

Years ago - Many years ago - - I recall sitting around the fire place with my grandma and other relatives- - my grandma would piece the quilt tops during the winter - (and as I've mentioned in a previous blog - she and her friends would quilt during the spring / summer) - -

My grandma made lots of quilt tops as we as a family would watch those good ole' shows (Gunsmoke - Gilligan's Island - Leave It To Beaver - Andy Griffith - Mary Tyler Moore - Rhoda and The Lawrence Welk Music Show).

Trust me when I say - in those days - I had no desire to quilt !

Bur today - - I'm motivated and ready to begin this project - - - I invite you to continue visiting me -- - as I post pictures of my progress on this blog. - -

After displaying the 'top of my refrig' (see my blog below) - - I thought it only fitting to display a pix of the top of my stove - - - I like the top of my stove ! - - Notice how nice and clean it is ! - - But preferably, look at the teapot on the stove - - I love teapots - somehow I have managed to accumulate them (no I do not drink tea) - - - Angels watch over my stove - as they are pictured on the top of each stove burner cover.

The top of the refrig was a challenge to bloggers - - - so I extend a 2nd challenge to my blogger friends - - - show us the top of your stove - -- (remember - no cheating - - must be as is !)

A 'blogger' that I follow - - challenged her visitors to take pix of the top of their refrigerator and post on their blog. - - - but you can not 'cheat' before taking the picture :) - - You must take the pix "as is".

Not too much to say about my refrig ! - -- And, some of you realize I do not use mine very often ! ! But, nevertheless, we all need a refrig. The little magnets attached to the freezer door - - are special and each have a story - - - One magnet says: "Friends Warm the Heart" - - This is so very true. There are 2 pix - - The Cross on the right hand side was made by a couple that I went on a Mission Trip with. (They made a lot of those !) And, lastly, the little gingerbread man on my door keeps me from eating foods not on my diet !

The very top of my refrig is 'interesting' - to the left you'll see what resembles a cat - - - but it's not a cat - - it's a raccoon - - - made by my elderly uncle. And, the cute and useful basket was given to me by a relative - I really like the basket!

So - - here's the challenge to you - - - Show us the top of your refrigerator ! Remember - no cheating ! -- - You must take the pix exactly as is - ! The top of your refrigerator (and the door) perhaps reveal your personality.

"What A Wonderful Way To Begin The New Year"

With a "Little Family Gathering"

My 2 sisters and I - - with some of their children and grandchildren

My nephew, Matt and his wife Jill, invited my two sisters and I and their children and grandchildren to their lovely house Sunday afternoon for a 'little family reunion' - - affording everyone the opportunity to "catch-up - (share)" what's been going on in our lives - - and at the same time we celebrated the 2nd birthday of sweet Analyce.

It's interesting to note that the new wave of ' blogging' was very instrumental in planning this family gathering. God has a way !

It was so sweet to see the 'grandchildren' sitting around the table - very well mannered - very sweet - - as they shared in sweet Analyce's birthday.

To my sisters, Cheryl and Ginger:

It is such a blessing to observe how God continues to bless all of your children.

and your grandchildren

They have all grown up - and it is obvious God has his hand over their lives.

The short time passed very quickly - - but everyone left with a feeling of 'family' and a desire to gather again soon !

My Mauve-Colored Beginner's Quilt

The 'solid blocks are mauve in color - - the print is mauve-colored flowers.

The backing for the quilt will be mauve - - the same color as the 'blocks'.

Wow - the more I look at these 'beginner quilts' - - - I'm truly convinced I'm definitely a "beginner" - - - Lots of flaws - - - but these are pieced - - once they are quilted - - - and placed on the bed - - - the flaws will truly disappear.

I'm working on my 4th one - - Pix of the material for the quilt will be posted this week. I'm delighted to say - the material was purchased for 75% off.

A BASKET

A TEAPOT ? ? ?

Another Beginner's Quilt

Every Quilt has a story - - - - this one is no exception - -

My THEME for this quilt was a "quilt full of baskets" - - - however, to my amazement - - 'one of the girls in our family - - -
as she was admiring this quilt - expressed such delight in my

'quilt of teapots'.

The more I look at this quilt - - -She is absolutely correct - - - I see both baskets - - - and teapots - - - So, I like this little comical evaluation !

This quilt resulted in being the size of a King-Size Bed. Material was obtained from old tattered and worn clothes I had stacked away. Look closely, you may recognize one of your garments !

You'll notice each 'basket' is full of yellow flowers - - - This is pieced - - not quilted - - when it is quilted I will use a yellow back for the quilt.

A Beginner's First "Bow - Tie"

My First Quilt

Look closely and you will depict the design of "The Bow Tie."

Here it is ! ! !

Yes - it's definitely a 'beginner' - but I"m very happy with it !

The word quilt has been a word of action in my family for decades. In today's world, people quilt as a hobby - - - in the earlier days, my grandma and her Sunday School friends would quilt as a necessity. Oh how I recall those winter evenings when Maw-Maw would piece several quilts - - - and during the Spring, she and her Sunday School friends would quilt on her screened in back porch. Quilting was not complete for those ladies without leaving with a fresh homemade jar of Maw-Maw's preserves - or jelly - or bread and butter pickles - - and even home-made butter. Those ladies would quilt at each of their houses until all the display of quilts were completed. Ahhh - - those were the days.

It's many years since those days - - but I have become a beginner in quilt-making - - resulting in 3 made quilts.

Stay tuned as I will be posting pix of the other 2 quilts.

They serve as a step of motivation as I begin my other quilt ! !

Stepping Into A Rainbow of Blessings

Believe it or not - - - we have all begun our daily steps into 2009.

No matter the issues we will each incur unexpected situations. May the result be a rainbow with a pot of Blessings for each of us.

These few days I've been off from work for the New Year's Holiday has allowed me to take some much needed steps in raking the leaves in my front yard - - and I must admit it's a great improvement. (I'll leave the back yard as is since it looks great with leaves on the ground :)) This task afforded me the opportunity to get that much needed exercise - - as well as visit with my neighbors - while they were also outside doing yard work!

I had planned to take a huge step this new year and make another 'beginniner's quilt' - - - but now that I am a 'blogger' - -there does not seem to be time - - but I plan to gather the material for the quilt soon.

Analyzing My Steps

Obviously - - I'm still in=training on my Blog ! !

I hope it's also Obvious that I'm excited about entering 2009. It's a time of New Beginnings - - - an opportunity to finally take the step and movc forward.

Resolutions are also on my Agenda - - - however, I am reminded of the inspirational teachings of Christian writer - - Ann Marie Stewart.

Ann Marie reminds us of the following:

New Years is a time of reflection ! Soon - - - we will replace the old calendar from the wall with the New One for 2009. Soon - - - we will gather all our info relating to Tax Time - - - resulting in analyzing how we spent our resources during 2008.

Ann Marie goes on to remind us - - - there is another calendar of record that also requires us to do some more analyzing - - - an awareness between each of us and God of how we spent our time, energy, and resources in our relationship with Him during 2008.

As the song implies, we should continually " Come and Adore Him - Christ the Lord".

So - let us all be faithful and Come and Adore - Christ the Lord all year long. And, in His presence may you feel His life and His light.

New Daily Steps in 2009

Stepping into New Beginnings
Christmas ! ! I love Christmas - - - I know you do, too ! !
As we celebrate Christmas each year, we are reminded of the dynamic New Beginning presented to everyone nearly 2000 years ago, as told in Luke 2:11:
"For unto you is born this day, in the City of David, a Savior which is Christ the Lord." - - - Oh what a wonderful New Beginning !

The recent beautiful, white S N O W produced a surprisingly New Beginning in my front yard. To my amazement - - - only one day after the S N O W had melted - - - new rose buds appeared on the rose bushes in my yard.
Another small New Beginning occurred a few days ago - - as I celebrated another birthday - - Even though one would never realize - - (ha-ha) I am considered a senior citizen - - and enjoying those senior discounts that accompanies it . Some identifies birthdays as a New Beginning with New Adventures!
Everyone will enter the New Beginning of 2009 within a matter of days - hours. Some people make it a priority to make their list of New Year's Resolutions. Some we keep - - Some we do not keep. In making our New Year's Resolutions this year, let us remember what the Apostle Paul taught us in I Thessalonians 5:16-18 - -
Rejoice Always - - - Pray Without Ceasing - - And - -
In Everthing Give Thanks ! !
As we step into a New Beginning in 2009
may you have continued peace, joy, and happiness.
